Running Away and Running After

This brother of yours was lost and has been found. -- Luke 15:32

Activity: Trace the shoeprint of each child on a cloth or poster board. Write the family name on the poster and individual child names in the outlines as a sign of belonging and welcome.

For real, pamphlet? Oh my. Anyway. It's a challenge to love unconditionally; it's easy to hold grudges, to kick people out, cut people off, and leave them out of your life forever. It takes a lot more to be like the father in that Gospel reading: To take a jerk of a son (you can substitute your own stronger words in there) and be grateful that he's come home to you. The movie Love Story has it all wrong when they say, "Love is never having to say you're sorry." False. Love is eternally saying you're sorry! Sorry for the little things like not replacing the toilet paper roll, or big things that I don't want to think about, let alone write it. And love is, even more, meaning it when you say it, and accepting it when it's said to you.

Prayer: Loving Father, we make a habit of running away from you, but time after time you seek us out and welcome us home.
