The Master's Voice

Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi and said to him: "Follow me." -- Luke 5:27

Activity: Play a game of "Simon Says." Talk about role models in society and how to choose the right ones to follow.

This is something I discuss often with friends. How do you choose the right role models? How do you steer kids towards the right ones? How did I manage to seek out the right role models as a kid? After all, I think I turned out all right...I'm thinking specifically of our young women, who have so many contradictory images and expectations being thrown at them about how they should act, whom they should see, how they should dress, etc. And I know from experience that it's hard; high school memories still torment me now. So how do you choose the right role model? Look for someone who respects themselves and respects others, not necessarily just someone popular or attractive. Don't idolize someone just because they're pretty or outrageous or (this gets annoying) "saying something no one's saying now"--sometimes, things go unsaid either because it's stupid or because it's not true. Use common sense and good judgment; hopefully, you're parents have instilled that in you. If not, it's certainly something God did.

Prayers: Lord, you are the way, the truth, and the life. As we learn to follow you, we discover the true path to happiness.
