Choose life so that you and your descendants may live. -- Deuteronomy 30:19
Activity: Write the word "Life" on a piece of paper and pass it around the family. Let each person say what life means to them.
Life means joy and pain, though we as a society (perhaps as human beings) want to forget and forgo the latter because, well, it hurts. Life is difficult decisions and chores and things you don't want to do and things that you have to do. But life is also laughter and goofing off and eating comfort food and seeing something beautiful for the first time. Life is falling in and falling out of love. And life is precious, and I don't think I'll ever understand why society wants to grant the rights to death in so many forms when it's life we should be preserving! As hard as it is to believe and understand, even for myself at times, every single person at every stage of life--regardless of what they've done--is a beautiful creation made in the image and likeness of God. We have no right to determine when any human life should be terminated, whether it's the unborn, the elderly, or scum-of-the-Earth criminals. That's something hard to remember, but it's something you must believe if you believe that life is beautiful.
Prayer: Living God, help us to choose life so that we may live. May we pass your precious gift of life to generations to come.
