Thus says the Lord: "Are you the one to build me a house to live in?" -- 2 Samuel 7:5
Activity: Saw small shapes of wood out of spare lumber. Then carry them today in emulation of carpenters Joseph and Jesus.
Okay, I'm not going to lie, that's a stupid activity. But they can't all be winners, I suppose! What I got out of the reflection is that it's what we do that makes us who we are in the world. I always think of the hymn, "They'll know we are Christians by our love." That really is just such a beautiful statement when you stop to ponder it, and it's simultaneously profound and depressing when you think what would happen if everyone lived like that all the time. As Christians, everything we say and do should be an expression of Christ's love for us and others. Wouldn't the world be a wonderful place if we all lived our love for one another all the time? No wars; no fighting; no intolerance; no racism; no hate. That's the profound part. The depressing part is that we don't. We really, really don't. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try, that's it's not worthwhile to try. Begin small--try showing love all the time to your closest family, and expand ever outward. Maybe one day we can hit the whole world.
Prayer: Creator God, let us work in cooperation to build your world into a place of hope and joy, of justice and peace.
