Detergent for a Clean Heart

Create in me a clean heart, O God. -- Psalm 51:10

Activity: Have each family member privately write a personal fault on a piece of cloth with a washable marker. Then wash the cloths and promise together to work on the faults.

Finding a fault in myself is easy: I have too short a temper. I've always been this way; little, unreasonable things will set me off on people who really don't deserve it. It's something I've also been working on ever since I was little, to varying degrees of success--that is, sometimes I'm better about controlling my temper than others. But I have to start small and work my way up. For some time now, I've been working on keeping a level head when talking on the phone to my family. It takes a concerted effort! The "Think System" from The Music Man is all a sham--you need to make a conscious decision not just to be better, but to love and to change what you are doing. And I think I have improved; you'll have to ask them for sure. Maybe I'll add working on my temper to my Lenten sacrifice...

Prayer: Merciful God, wash away our guilt and cleanse us of our sins. Give us pure hearts and loving spirits.
