It may seem odd for me to be writing about the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine for a few reasons. First of all, though I love the X-Men and know more about them than any other Marvel team, Wolverine has never been a favorite character of mine, though I don't hate him. Second, I've been WAY more excited about Watchmen than this film. So why do I care? Well, all my fellow comic book nerds are currently away from me, so this is my only way to vent my growing frustrations with this movie. I will still see it--probably opening week--and I think if you don't really know too much about comic books you won't see any of the problems I do. And, of course, Topless Robot (the nerd blog I read) has been doing a much better job tracking the movie and its possible errors than I have, so hit the link and read up with them as well. :-)
Oh, and as far as trailers: There's the one at Apple Movie Trailers and this one at USA Today that I can't seem to link properly. Enjoy!
First of all, and I may be mistaken, but I was always under the impression that Wolverine's original power was solely his healing ability; the adamantium claws came only after he joined the Weapon X program, after they grafted the metal onto his skeleton. So why are the showing a mini-Logan running around with bone claws as a child? Perhaps this is a detail from another Marvel Universe that I just don't follow? I wish someone would tell me so I won't be so angry whenever I see that.
Secondly, both the comic books and the first film imply that, when Scott and Ororo (Cyclops and Storm) find Wolverine in the woods that that is the first time they have ever met. The ensuing dialogue and the way they act--no idiot would think they had ever known each other before then. So why does it look like Wolverine stumbles across an adolescent Cyclops doing math and shooting beams from his eyes in this prequel? What, does Scott get brain damaged a second time and forget all about that, too? If the answer to this question is yes, I will give up all hope of enjoying this movie.
Topless Robot is much more enraged than I am about what the hell is going on with Deadpool. How can I possibly top them? So read this instead. And this one, too. I will note, however, that IMDB still has Deadpool listed as someone separate from Weapon XI, so I'm hoping against hope that, despite what the second article says, that scarred man with too many powers is NOT Deadpool.
Also, and perhaps the shots just never got close enough for me to be able to tell, but wasn't the love of Logan's life who was killed, uh, Japanese? Yuriko, who eventually became Lady Deathstrike (who was NOT the way she was shown in the second film)?? Perhaps I am once again mixing up universes/chronology/storylines, but I was always under the impression that Wolverine had a bad case of yellow fever before he met Jean Grey.
I am, however, still looking forward to seeing Gambit FINALLY, after being jerked around for 2 films promising he'd be there! I know the nerd world is not too optimistic about his screen counterpart, but as long as he's sexy and Cajun, I don't care.
