I honestly can't believe that I've actually received messages and comments (that I've subsequently deleted because of their sheer rudeness/bad grammar [Heaven knows the Grammar Nazi I am]) regarding my previous post! Sooooo here's a clarification/response to those...
Yes, it's true, I only read the first book. I was, however, up front with that and mentioned right away that all my opinions are drawn from what I encountered in the first book. For those who believe I have no right to pass judgment on the entire series because I haven't experienced the whole thing, I must ask: Have you ever decided you didn't like a TV series after watching 1 episode, maybe even 2? Or decided that a movie sucked after the first 15 minutes? If you honestly answered no to those two questions, then you are either the most patient or the least discerning person in the world. For those of you who said yes, which should be most of you, guess what--you did the same thing I did! It's a simple principle of a series having characteristics that are common to each part of the whole, and if you didn't like pretty much anything about 1 part, what are the odds you'll like the rest? And I currently have no intention of reading the rest of the books, even just to make all of you shut up, because I barely have time to read for fun as it is, and I want to spend the free time I do have reading books I actually have a chance of enjoying.
I also have no problem with fluff books. None at all! I've devoured many a fluffy read--I've even read a few of Nicholas Sparks' novels, for goodness' sake!--when I want to read without exerting my brain too much. They're fine. And as Nicholas Sparks proves, not every book I read has to have Nobel Prize-worthy writing, either. But I like fluffy reads with an actual plot, no matter how many times he uses it in his novels, and I'd prefer not to object morally to anything I read. Not the case for Twilight. I've already explained that part.
In case, however, you still don't quite understand why I think the books are sexist and Bella is a terrible role model for teenage girls, read this web comic--thanks to Nikki for pointing me to it! I thought I was got to the point, but this girl has me beat. (Read this one, too, while you're at it.)
I will try to make this the last text I waste on Twilight. I can't promise anything, though, if people won't stop trying to convince me to change my mind.
